Resources and the environment are the two major strategic issues faced by mankind in the 21st century. In the last three decades, China's social development and economic construction has achieved great achievements, Industrial and agricultural development and urbanization has accelerated noticeably, the demand for energy is increasing. Geothermal resources are as an important source of energy to support economic development in our country. Geothermal resources are abundant and widely distributed in China, most of them are low-temperature geothermal resources and the rest are high-temperature geothermal resources. So far, China has found nearly 4000 geothermal mineral springs (wells), more than 100 geothermal fields have been explored and evaluated, the thermal mineral water is up to 330 million m3/a.In this paper, starting with the geothermal resources generated conditions, the author is analyzing the hydro-geological conditions and engineering geological conditions of Ala Shan Hot Springs in Hot Springs County of Xinjiang. The formation mechanism of Allah Shan Hot Springs is explored through ordnance survey, geophysical prospecting, geochemical surveys and other means. The results show that the F1 fault is the master fault in the investigation region, which is south-west towards the north-east. Strong fault activities unclose the water thermal convection channel between the substrate and the cap rock, forming a regional geothermal anomaly. The heated and pressed underground water rises to the surface in the low sequence fault or the special construction site, forming geothermal springs. In this paper, a total of seven profiles are completed with two kinds of geophysical methods:ATEM and EH-4. The fracture characteristics and the distribution of water storage in the workaround are identified. The lithologic characteristics and structural features are also determined in the workaround.Thermal infrared remote sensing interpretation takes QUICKBIRD image file as the main body, accompanied with the ETM image, ASTER images of reference, topographic maps, field surveys to interpret structural fault. Geophysical and interpretation of remote sensing are two ways for the mutual authentication, identifying the mining locations of two geothermal exploration wells. The paper also discusses the possible environmental impacts could emerge in the process of development and utilization of geothermal resources, proposing the protective measures and recommendations.
