Lagoon not only has the function of shoreline protection, degrading pollution and balancing ecosystem, but also is the best location of port construction and travel. Therefore, protection and exploitation of lagoon is a paradox. Recently, because of the natural and human impacts, the area of Shandong Peninsula lagoon was decreasing, and the surroundings were wearing away. It is very important to study the lagoon. In this study, we use 1973, 1979, 1989, 1999 and 2009 five Landsat images to study the Shandong Peninsula lagoon spatial patterns and changes in 30 years and analyze the natural and human impacts. Moreover, the protection and exploitation advices of lagoon are put forward. There are 44 lagoons in Shandong Peninsula which locate eastern parts of Peninsula. These lagoons consist of offshore bar lagoons, longshore bar lagoons and tombolo-lagoons. The 18 lagoons locate northern Peninsula, and the rest locate southern parts. On the whole, the barrier and area of lagoon were decreasing, and the length of shoreline was shortening during the past 30 years. However, because of the breed aquatics, the shoreline and area of some lagoons were increasing. The shoreline of Diaolongzui lagoon increased, but the area and barrier decreased and then increased. The spit of Chaoyanggang lagoon consists of two parts. Its shoreline decreased and then increased, and the area increased. The shoreline and area of Linjiagang lagoon were increasing, but the barrier increased and then decreased. The barrier and area of Langnuankou lagoon decreased, but the entrance and shoreline have slightly changed. The changes took placed in the eastern part.During the past 30 years, because of the natural and human impacts, Shandong Peninsula changed heavily. The major impacts come from the construction of breed aquatics, saltern and shoreline engineering. On the aspects of lagoon ecosystem serving function evaluation and control of shoreline engineering, we put forwards decision-making and advices to lagoon protection and exploitation.
