With the development of mineral processing technology and smelting technology, the residual mineral of tailings already has recycling value. When the technical and economic conditions allow, it can be effectively developed.Tailings is a low taste, composition complex deposits, mixed with a lot of mud and sand. In the process of mining tailings, by the impact of mining methods, the original stability will change. Mining tailings needs high technology, if handle not well, it will appear dangerous such as break, landslide and collapse. In this paper, according to the mining tailings project of Jiudingshan Kuguoqing tailings pond, using the method of site investigation, theoretical analysis, modeling calculation and combining engineering practice, from the angle of geotechnical engineering and safety engineering, analyze the safety of tailings dam in the recovery process.The completion of research is mainly as follows:(1) Discuss the methods of tailings mining and the advantages and disadvantages of mining tailings in detail, analyze the issues that need to consider in general and the feasibility of mining. Accroading to engineering geological conditions, hydrogeological conditions and situation of Kuguoqing tailings pond, analyzed the conditon of mining, and determined program of tailings mining.(2) Analyzed affect factors of the stability of tailings dam in the recovery process, selected three critical height for calculation of dam safety. They are status height of tailings dam, half the height of file tailings dam and height of initial dam.Used software of Lizheng geotechnical and ANSYS, modeling the dam, and calculate the safety factor, stress-strain law and displacement under different conditions of dam, and compared two kinds of results, obtained two results are similar and reasonable.(3) According to the results of calculate, comprehensive analyze the stability of dam during the recovery process. Known, the status situation of Kuguoqing tailings is stable, and the work of mining can be carried out according to plan. When recovery to the height that half the height of file dam and the height of initial dam, the overall stability of the dam is also meet the safety factor of the standard requirements, but the overall dam safety is lower. The part of landslide destroyed the dam gradually moved to the initial dam, especially in the initial dam and rock posts slope,appears obvious deformation, stress concentration and plastic deformation. Therefore, it needs to monitor focus on the initial dam and rock posts slope, and reinforcement them if necessary.(4) Analyzed the main impact factors of safety of mining tailings, predicted possible issues of Kuguoqing tailings pond during the recovery process, and proposed prevention and treatment measures from technical aspects and management aspects.
