A number of grade of 60% to 70% of titanium slag are generated in the traditional electro-titanium slag process, however the low-grade titanium slag can not be used directly for production of titanium chloride and titanium sponge. But re-enrichment the titanium slag to more than 90% by EAF, the cost will increase. Although sulfuric acid-extraction can achieve enrichment, the grade of slag is far from the request of production of titanium dioxide pigment in chlorination and production of titanium sponge. Therefore, the quality of this titanium slag improvement has a very important practical significance.Based on the analysis of electric furnace smelting preparation technology of titanium-rich material both home and abroad, proposed a new method of improving the grade of titanium slag which can change the low-grade titanium slag into titanium-rich material, but also significantly reduce the output of by-products copperas. Through the study of grade of 71.91% titanium slag which from somewhere in Yunnan province, we found, after alkali roasting, acidifying at room temperature and of titanium dioxide more than 97%, while the yield of titanium oxide up to 89.51%. This rich titanium can meet the need of chloride manufacturing titanium dioxide and titanium sponge.The purpose of this experiment is to improve the content of titanium dioxide, while reducing the impurity content like calcium, magnesium, silicon and aluminum Using chemical analysis, X-ray and scanning electron microscopy and other methods to study the phase of titanium slag, it were identified mainly by the black rock solid solution, titanium tower cornerstone of solid solution, silicate vitreous and free form of titanium dioxide.By study the calcination temperature, calcination time and alkali amount, it was found that roasting the mixture of titanium slag and alkali under 925℃for 3h would be appropriate for the alkali roasting stage. Through acidity, acidification time and acid-fold, the optimum process conditions for the acidification stage was the sample after acidification by 90% sulfuric acid, maintained for 1h in 70℃water-bath heating. By studying the hydrolysis temperature and hydrolysis time, suitable experimental conditions for the hydrolysis was to keep the titanium liquid (pH=3) in boiling water bath for 4h. Preferable high grade synthetic rutile was finally prepared:TiO2:96.98%, Fe:0.097%, CaO:0.025%, MgO:0.0042%, SiO2:0.024%, Al2O3:2.32%.From the point of environmental, by neutralizing the acidic and alkaline waste water, the purpose of this paper is to avoid the direct discharge of environmental-risking liquid, to replace the end of pipe by pollution prevention treatment.
