With the development of economy of the world, the demand for the petroleum is increasing. Owing to the decrease of stock of oil on land, oceans become an important area of petroleum exploration and production. The pipeline has incomparable advantages over other methods, so ocean pipelines are widely used to be one mode of transport. As an important component of submarine pipeline system, riser system finds itself in a unique position, which is the connection between the submarine pipeline and offshore platform and facility; furthermore, the loads acting on the riser system are very complex which are not only from the sea-level such as ice load and wave load, but also from the seabed soil. At the same time, the riser system is affected by the temperature and pressure. Therefore, the riser system is important but weak, so how to design the riser system rationally and with high-efficiency become the problems to be solved urgently. The design of a riser system will involve many basic theories, such as the pipe-wave interaction theory, pipe-soil interaction theory. These theories which are mature can be used directly; In the case of these theories which are not mature, we need take engineering experience as reference. Through these basic theoretical research, this thesis researches in-depth the model of action of the load acting on the riser system, along with the role of location and mechanism of action, as can be the theoretical basis of the calculation of load parameters in design.AUTOPIPE is the finite element software for analyzing pipe stresses, which is commonly used in riser system design. Starting from the theoretical foundation, this thesis introduces in detail the selection and the calculation and the input of design parameters, still, the steps of modeling and outputting the results. Taking a mixture of a pipeline riser combined with Bohai Bay oil platform as a typical example, the specific description of the riser model, analysis, calculation and post-processing process is given. In the model building process, it will involve many design parameters. The appropriate selection of design parameters within the different results would have a huge impact. This thesis summarizes a large number of non-deterministic parameters which plays an important role on results on the basis of the experience, and describes the different results brought by different design parameters and the comparison of these different results.
