Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO),as a kind of polyoxyethylene nonionic surfactants, widelyexist in textile auxiliaries which were often used in chemical processing of textile products whendyeing and finishing. The commercial alkylphenol ethoxylates were mainly nonylphenolethoxylates (NPEO) and octylphenol ethoxylates (OPEO). APEO are stable and degrade slowly inthe environment. When they are gathered, theywill show the toxicity. The degradation products ofAPEO are nonylphenol (NP), octylphenol (OP), and short chain NP1EO, NP2EO andNP3EO,which will be kept for a longer time in the environment and show greater toxicity. Some ofthem have a kind of environmental hormone properties which can disrupt wildlife and humans’sendocrine function. So alkylphenol ethoxylates had been prohibited or restricted by many countriesand organizations. The present methods of detecting alkylphenol ethoxylates in textiles havedisadvanages in detecting the components of APEO with different polymerization degree, and evenmore can’t detect APEO with low polymerization degree. So the present methods can’t meet thedemands for Oeko-tex standard100-2012.In addition, soxhlet extraction need long time,so itdifficult to meet the needs of the mass detection. The study established afast, efficient andcomprehensive approach that can detectlow degree alkylphenol ethoxylates in textiles.Firstly APEO were extracted from textiles by ultrasonic extraction technology. Then highperformance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) was used to conduct thequalitative and quantitative analysis of APEO.The methods can be applied to the detectionalkylphenol ethoxylates in textiles. Especially alkylphenol ethoxylates with lower degree. Thepurpose of the study was to determine the optimal ultrasonic pre-treatment conditions and HPLC/MS conditions. The optimal ultrasonic pre-treatment conditions are60%methanol in methylene chloride mixture solvent as the extraction solvent, extracted20min, extracted at35℃, ultrasonicpower with350W. HPLC/MS conditions are Zorbax SB C18as the chromatographiccolumn,methanol-10mmol/L ammonium acetate as the mobile phase, parent ion in the form of[M+NH4]+, OP1EO and NP1EO detected with capillary transmission voltage of80Ev and70Evrespectively. With this method, the detection limit can up to0.02-1.03mg/kg and the recoverywas93%-106%with RSD of6.27%. Compared with the existing standards, the establishedmethod with short extracting time, smaller errors, higher accuracy and lesser solvent can be usedto detect the alkylphenol ethoxylates with low degree. Therefore, the method is more suitable forthe needs of actual testing.
