Sewing machine is in great demand in sewing equipment. With the CNC development of the whole machinery industry, sewing machine begins to become more and more automatic, effective and environmentally friendly to shorten the distance with the advanced level. This project is derived from the sub-project “Shaanxi Province generation CNC machinery product innovation demonstration project”. The idea about servo drive sewing machine is proposed, then the sewing machine virtual prototype is conducted. The servo drive sewing machine can shorten the traditional mechanical transmission chain length, integrate automation control functions and improve the sewing efficiency.Based on previous studies of industrial sewing machine, the main research work about this thesis includes the following aspects:(1)The composition, characteristics and working principle of sewing machine should be understood, then the servo drive technology is combined to sewing machine according to the functions users needed and technologic requirements. The schemes of control system and the whole movement are proposed to provide the basis for subsequent research and virtual prototyping.(2)The needle bar mechanism, thread take-up mechanism, feeding mechanism and hook line mechanism are selected and calculated to review and summarize the design process. At the same time, the sketch of each mechanism is built. In addition, a new idea about feeding mechanism is proposed. It can cancel the kinematic chain in the transmission process and contribute to each mechanism innovative design of sewing machine.(3)The virtual prototype of sewing machine is established. The whole machine is divided into several parts according to the functional requirements and the final machine is assembled with all the small parts. The simulation analysis of the main mechanism is completed by three-dimensional software. What’s more, the joint clearance and balance question are taken into account in the needle bar mechanism and the force conditions of feeding sleeve and feeding slider are analyzed. The rationality and feasibility of each mechanism can be verified from the simulation results.There are two innovation points in this thesis. On one hand, the servo drive technology is combined to the sewing machine and a new technology scheme is proposed. It can shorten kinematic chain length and cancel several transmission links through the new mechanical design of the feeding mechanism. What’s more, it’s the re-design and summarization to the traditional sewing machine. On the other hand, the influences that come from the joint clearance and balance aspect are considered into needle bar mechanism to provide a theoretical basis for optimization. Through the study of servo drive industrial sewing machine in this thesis, the foundation of CNC transformation and mechanism optimization of sewing machines are provided.
