As the most basic manufacturing unit, machine tools need large amounts of energy during machining process. With the rise of lean manufacturing, energy saving and emission reduction of the machine tool has become a hot issue in the field of low carbon manufacturing In order to promote the research of energy saving of machine tool, XH717 CNC milling machine has been selected to build energy modeling and analyze parameters influence. Specific content is summarized as follows:To obtain machine tool’s energy consumption information, the paper builds a test platform for CNC machine tool’s energy consumption which can simultaneously measure the cutting force and power energy. Base on the plat establishes energy model and specific cutting energy (SCE) model for milling machine tool based on experiments, and divide the SCE into four parts according to different attribution:specific fixed energy, specific operation energy, specific material removal energy, and specific unproductive energy, and analyze the influential parameters for each part.The platform is used to measure the machine tool’s auxiliary system energy consumption which can be divided into basic modules, intermittent operation modules and optional modules. Then the switching function is introduced into this model, and the specific fixed energy model is established.Then the no-load energy model and specific operation energy model for machine tools are established with experiments and data fitting. The spindle speed control is separated as above and below fundamental frequency, build power balance equation of the spindle motor power and the spindle speed respectively. Establish feed motor power balance equation of XYZ+Z. direction according to different feed load with different feed direction. Obtain the relationship of the spindle motor power of XH715 CNC milling machine and the spindle speed (100-4500 RPM) through the experiment. Results show that the spindle motor power present a trend of increase, decrease and increase with the increase of spindle speed and appeared a minimum point of power during the above fundamental speed control period. Furthermore, we acquire the principle of specific operation model with the increase of spindle speed and feed according to analysis of the impact of related parameters.An index formula of specific cutting energy is built based on the experienced equation of cutting force, and then we get SCE experienced equation for 45# steel under plane milling. We conclude that radial cutting depth will bring the biggest influence for SCE followed by feed rate and cutting depth. Specific unproductive energy model is set up according to the quadratic function between load lost power and cutting power. In summary, in order to reduce machines’SCE, the first and second stage of spindle speed should be avoided, and reasonable feed, larger axial and radial cutting depth should be selected.Finally, energy model during machining time is established, it is concluded that the effective cutting energy of plane milling machine tools only takes up 4.9%of total machine tool’s power, while the self-operation of machine tools accounts for the 93.5%. Therefore, we can reduce the energy consumption by controlling the opening of the auxiliary system and reducing no-load operation and processing time during the machining processes. Finally, from an example, we can conclude that the established model fit the actual processing well.
