With a dramatic improvement of social production industrialization level, the world's energy, resources and environment issues become increasingly prominent. As the processing characteristics of high energy consumption and low efficiency of CNC machine tools in China, the energy characteristics of CNC high precision surface grinding machine and the vertical machining center werw researched in this paper,and the energy consumption model and the cutting/grinding specific energy consumption predicting model were established, the cutting force and power acquisition experiments were carried out, the analysis of the processing parameters on energy efficiency and cutting/grinding specific energy consumption were analyzed.And it provides a guidance to energy saving and optimization of machine tool.Firstly, on the basis of the analyzed energy consumption characteristic of the machine tool, combined the running states of machine tool, the power balance equation, the specific energy consumption model and the energy efficiency model of machine tool were established. According to the established model, the power consumption test platform of energy consumption of typical machine tool was set up,and experimental researches about energy consumption were carried out on the CNC high precision surface grinding machine and the vertical machining center. the relationship between the specific energy consumption and cutting process parameters was analyzed, the effect law were studied on the cutting process parameters to the energy efficiency.Secondly, the distribution of each running states' average power of CNC high precision surface grinding machine and the vertical machining center were analyzed,based on the energy consumption of grinding experiments and the milling experiments,the influence discipline and the influence level were analyzed, which between process parameters and specific energy consumption/the energy efficiency of cutting/grinding.From the perspective of the minimum specific energy consumption and the maximum energy efficiency, it were analyzed to select a larger material removal rate can decrease the specific energy consumption of cutting/grinding, significantly increase the efficiency of machine tool under the same spindle speed.Finally, the definition of cutting/grinding specific energy consumption and additional load loss power were introduced according to the power balance equation,the BP neural network prediction model was established, and a method to realized the prediction of cutting/grinding specific energy consumption was put forward. It is that using the way of processing experimental samples to obtaining the training sample,and establishing the nonlinear mapping relationship between the input of processing parameters and the output of additional load loss coefficient through BP network, andrealizing the indirect access to cutting grinding effective processing power, to achieve the prediction of cutting/grinding specific energy consumption. And a series of comparative experiments was conducted on the CNC high precision surface grinding machine and the vertical machining center to verify the feasibility of the prediction method.
