China is a maritime country and the development of mariculture industry occupies an important position in China’s agricultural production. Scallops grading equipment will play a more and more important role in the process of scallop processing with China’s scallops farming area and production increased year by year. Currently, specifical equipment used for scallop grading is relatively penurious, most methods of scallop grading use artificial methods, not only the efficiency of scallops grading is low but also the intensity of labor is high, grading accuracy rate is also severely affected by subjective factors. In order to solve the problems occurred in the scallops grading process and improve scallops grading status quo, through the investigation about production status, grading status quo and biological traits of scallops, a experimental machine about the scallop grading was designed.By measuring and analyzing the shape traits and weight traits of bay scallops, summed up the most significant factor about bay scallops morphological traits influence on weight traits is the shell length, based on the results, through the analysis to the mechanical structure and working principle of other grading equipment,a double rolls scallop grading machine was devised which graded scallops based on scallop shell length, by varying the axial length of the classification hole to achieve purpose of grading, the classification hole is oval hole which is formed by the spiral grooves on the double rolls surface, According scallop grading reference level set the hierarchical pore size:50mm, 55 mm, 60 mm.During the design and testing related to double rolls scallop grading machine, completed design and modeling about the key components and overall structure through the CAD/CAM three-dimensional simulation software, and have a test about simulation and interference checking and based on the results of simulation the experimental device was produced. Processing of scallops classification was investigated in this paper by single factor and orthogonal experiments. With the method which was combination with experimental study and theoretical analysis, Determined the optimal classification roll diameter :130mm, speed: 80 r / min, inclination :10 °.The double scallop grading machine uses angle adjustment mechanical structure, by adjusting angle and replacing the classification rollers for grading a variety of shellfish, with such a configuration designed to weaken the device dependence on the working environment, improving the applicability and versatility of scallop grading machine, this not only saves costs but also can improve productivity and increase economic efficiency.
