With the development of economy and the progress of the society, people need to protect the resources and environment more and more strongly. As the solid waste, iron tailings contains a wealth of Fe, Si, S and other elements making resources available. Iron oxide as the emerging semiconductor catalyst material gradually received attention. Therefore, the development of iron oxide tailings preparation for environmental protection has great prospects. In this paper, we extracted Fe2O3 from iron ore tailing because the raw materials contains high grade of it. In our experiment, high purity iron was separated from iron ore tailings by acid leaching procedure. Then using high purity iron as an iron source for preparation of iron oxide, and comparison of morphology and catalytic properties of iron oxide prepared from laboratory reagents. Using acid leaching residue of supported iron oxide and on its photocatalytic performance were tested.Study on the extraction of main components of acid leaching of iron and the main properties of acid leaching slag. The acid leaching residues were analyzed by SEM and XRD, and the adsorption properties of the acid leaching residues were tested. The results showed that the major elements in the acid leaching solution is iron and other impurities is relatively small, the acid leaching solution of iron leaching rate was 99.55%. Acid leaching slag and iron tailings different structure by SEM observation.Respectively acid infusion and laboratory reagents for the iron source, Na OH as a precipitating agent, prepared in precipitation of iron oxide precursor, then at 300 ℃ and at 500 ℃ for preparing iron oxide. And tested for their photocatalytic properties. The results show that the presence of Acid Leaching of impurity ions, iron oxide can be synthesized at 500 ℃, and its appearance changed greatly, from the original rod into a spherical. The photocatalytic activity of ferric oxide was not the difference between the iron oxide prepared by pure iron oxide and pure iron oxide under the UV light. At room temperature using a dissolution- precipitation method, prepared Fe2O3 / acid leaching slag composites, and materials characterization, test the adsorption performance and photocatalytic properties. Adsorption is better than acid leaching residues. There is not much different catalytic effect with iron oxide, but improved catalytic performance in visible light.
