Drill string heave compensation system is a vital device of offshore drilling operation. Semi-submersible platforms or floating drilling vessels used in deepwater drill will induce the regular heave motion which is affected by heave. The heave motion has a strong impact on WOB, so that the drilling efficiency is reduced, as well as the life of tools. Meanwhile, operation is safety risks, which can increase the costs. Therefore, the compensate for heave motion of drill string must be taken on.Structure, operating principle and characteristics of heave compensation system of current drill string is introduced contrastively in this article. Advantages and disadvantages are pointed out. Heave motion with regular wave is studied by using nonlinear methods, and the state space equations of passive heave compensation system are established, then the problems are calculated by Matlab, and the effect of passive heave compensation system are analyzed.At present, the heave compensation system can be classified passive heave compensation and active heave compensation by the way of energy, The two simulation models are established by using AMESim software, and the dynamic simulation is analyzed. Comparing the effect and accuracy, the main influence factors are discussed.The new design of heave compensation system of drill string is proposed after the comparison, and the principle is illustrated. The dimension of structure and the hydraulic control system is designed. Dynamic simulation is analyzed by using AMESim, which analyzes the effect and accuracy of the new design, as well as energy consumption. This paper verifies the viability of the new heave compensation, and provides the theoretic foundation for optimization of the heave compensation system.
