In today’s society, the hand sanitizers and the shower gels are popular,but soaps are still used by people, for its long history and good-quality of removing dirty. By investigation, we find that the production rate of soap grows 10% each year, and mainly for the low-end markets. On the one hand, using hand sanitizers and shower gels need more water to clean them, thus cause environmental pollution; on the other hand, chemicals may affect human health.-----For this reason, handmade natural-material soap should be promoted. But existing soap production process is complicated; it needs a quick and easy way to adapt to today’s fast-paced society. The purpose and significance of this study is to design some handmade soap with family members’ cartoon figurers, make the corresponding molds and toolbox to meet the needs for high quality home-made cleaning products and moreover, stimulates the interaction among the family members. Because of the simple & convenient manufacturing process, and the simple using method of handmade soaps, the development of soap industry could be promoted and the pollution can be reduced.Based on market and literature search, using Free Form software to design the home-made soaps and the corresponding molds, and using photosensitive resin processing equipment to make the molds, this study is focus on the processes of home-made soap, and the design work of DIY package for making soap at home. This study completed the following works:Market-research report, which brings out the research result of soap processing methods, the existing products, molds, and users. This result is helpful to improve the soap-make process, find design and modifying methods for handmade soap, and get a better understanding of the users. The report also gives out the research results of the cold and hot processing methods for home and factory; it analyzes the existing soaps’ component, function, price, shape, and the selling proposition.Literature research report. This part focuses on the research on new theories, new ideas from the produced journals, theses, books, patents, newspapers, and academic achievements about the soap production; it tries to learn the develop tendency of soap-product.Design practice report. In order to meet the needs of easy-quick home-made cartoon soaps, this study uses FREEFORM software to design the shape and the recessed mold of home-made soap; it uses 3D Photosensitive resin printers to get the recessed mold quickly; it designed and made the DIY soap package including the instruction, tools and materials for hand-made soap.Design work. This section is the design description and the photos of the designed soap-DIY package.By more than one year’s design practice, combined with cold-processing method of making soaps, the overall homemade DIY package was designed. In present China, it is harder to find a series of household products which using family members’ images. By DIY soap at home, family members can make soaps with different skin-care effects, and increase the interactions during DIY process. It helps the children to understand soap-make process and the concept of mold. Integrating 3D soap shapes, soap mold and the producing process, home-DIY soap package will expand the sustainable development of soap industry.
