As a new grinding technology, cold air grinding technology is one of the hot topics in green manufacturing research. In gear hob manufacturing process, there is a problems that with cutting fluid the environment is polluted and without cutting fluid the workpiece surface is easy to cause micro cracks and then shorten tool’s life. Concerning on this problem, an experiment of cold air grinding is carried out in this thesis. The M2 high speed steel(HSP) is selected as the research object. With orthogonal experiment method, the influences of processing parameters, such as temperature and flow of cold air, grinding depth, wheel speed, grinding feed, etc on the hardness, roughness, material metallographic burn and residual stress on the grinded surface of workpiece are analysed. The experiment results show that with the decrease of cold air temperature the material metallographic burn is relieved significantly. At the same time, the residual compressive stress is increased untill-27℃. In addition, the comparison experiment of minimal quantities lubrication in cold air is carried out. The effect of the interaction between temperature and flow of cold air is checked and the experiment study of effect of cooling time on the residual stress is added. The results show that the cooling time to workpiece plays an important role to affect residual stress and this is not been prompted in the existed researches.
