Study On The Ecosystem Health Of The Village And Town Evaluation

Currently, the ecological crisis has become a significant element which has affected on national or regional ecological safety. As a new method of environmental assessment management, scholars and research institutions have had extensive research on assessment of ecosystem health. The majority of the researchers and institutions focus on urban and rural area, river, forest, grassland and farmland; merely pay attention to the gradual functional and structural degenerated village and town ecosystem.In recent years, the continuous degraded village and town ecosystem has constrained the living environment of villagers and town residents from enhancing, as well as the sustainable development of society. As a result, it becomes a vital issue on the way to construct new socialist countryside. With referring to previous findings of the assessment of village and town ecosystem health, this research paper introduces the origin of village and town as well as defines what village and town ecosystem health is. Besides, this study analyzes difficulties that the Chinese village and town ecosystem facing. This research also builds up assessment system of ecosystem health and evaluation standard which according to the principles of indicator system and suits for the Chinese villages and towns. Regarding the assessment system, the formulation of five categories, which are excellent, good, medium, bad, and worst, is introduced in this paper with employing scoring standard index system.Based on theoretical studies and a case of Nankou town in Changping District, Beijing, this paper analyzes and evaluates its village and town ecosystem health. The assessment index system is made up of the natural environmental system and the social-economic environmental system, which contains eight subsystem layers and 35 indicators. With applying the five categories scoring standard index system, the subject town’s ecosystem health is divided in this piece. Based on these methodologies, employing the analytic hierarchy process ensures the distributed weight in each layer. To integrate the scoring standard index system, this paper concludes the main objective layer, sub-objective layer, system layer and sub-system layer. The research findings indicate that the overall score of Nankou town’s ecosystem health is 3.422, which is categorized into the good section. Noticeably, the score of the ecological integrity of the natural environmental system is 3.334 while the service functional integrity of the social-economic environmental system is 3.555. Nankou town’s health condition matches the developmental level of suburban countryside in Beijing. Rationality and applicability of this assessment index system have been proven via the case study.
