Polygorskite/montmorillonite porous powders with stacking structure were prepared from layered montmorillonite and polygorskite by the methods of ball milling, ultrasonic dispersion, freeze-drying and filtration. And the preparation methods, technological conditions, performances and applications of the resulting porous powders were studied. The structure, morphology, porosity and adsorption properties of palygorskite/montmorillonite were charactrized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, BET, zeta potential and GC. Furthermore, the effect of methods and process conditions to prepare palygorskite/montmorillonite on its structure, performances and the automobile exhaust adsorption property of palygorskite/montmorillonite were discussed. With the ball milling method and ultrasonic dispersion method, palygorskite/montmorillonite with stacked structure were prepared, whose specific surface area were 28 m2/g and 117 m2/g, respectively. Results showed palygorskite/montmorillonite prepared by ultrasonic dispersion method had better stacking structure. Study on ultrasonic dispersion method prepared porous powder of palygorskite/montmorillonite showed that concentration of the system, material ratio, p H and drying methods affect the structure and properties of porous powder of palygorskite/montmorillonite. Same mass of polygorskite and montmorillonite were ultrasoniced for 4 h in water(c=1%), polygorskite/montmorillonite were prepared, whose specific surface area was 89 m2/g and 117 m2/g through filtration and freeze-drying seperately, and their pores distributed in 3~30nm. Polygorskite/montmorillonite powders made in the process of filtration had larger specific surface area, narrow pore distribution, while powders prepared by freeze-drying method had better adsorption property with flocculence morphology.Study on the adsorption property of automobile exhaust(simulation component of CO, CO2, NO2, CH4) showed that performance of polygorskite/montmorillonite porous material was better than that of raw material mixture. The automobile exhaust adsorption capacity of polygorskite/montmorillonite porous powder prepared by filtration and freeze-drying methods was high. So, the polygorskite/montmorillonite powders have the potential to be used as adsorption material.
