With the rapid development of economy and the improvement of people’s living standards, the requirement of product quality and appearance was improved, too. The phenomenon leads to development of packaging industry. Plastic material, in particular. with its light weight, good mechanical properties,function rich, various of forms, widely used in the packaging of food, medicine and daily necessities. However, oil resources is decreasing and plastic rubbish is increasing, it causes increasingly serious energy crisis and environment pollution. While looking for environmentally and friendly biodegradable materials, has become an important way to solve the problem.Starch, a cheap polysaccharide obtained from a great variety of crops, is a natural polymer with a good biodegradability. The research and development of degradable materials, such as starch film, aroused people’s great interest. Starch film was prepared by adding plasticizer. The traditional plasticizer mainly has two kinds, one kind is polyols. such as glycerin, another kind is amide, such as formamide. However, the mechanical properties of starch film prepared by traditional plasticizer were poor. The application of starch based packaging films is limited. To improve the starch film properties became one ofthe focuses of current research.Plasticizer has important effect on the properties of starch film. In this paper, the nontoxic hydroxyalkylformamides (HAF). as a new type of starch plasticizer. is used to prepare HAF-plasticized starch film and composite film. Starch film and composite film were obtained by the casting method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) detected the morphology of starch films (SF) and composite films. The crystallinity of starch films and composite films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of starch films and composite films were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Under a certain relative humidity (RH). the water vapor permeability (WVP) and mechanical properties of starch films and composite films were determined.Compared with preparation of starch film and the traditional plasticizer glycerol as a starch plasticizer. studied the effects of the type and amount of HAF on the properties of starch film. The results showed that. HAF is a kind of effective starch plasticizer. And as a starch plasticizer. part of HAF can effectively improve the water vapor permeability (WVP) and mechanical properties of starch films.In this paper, HAF as a plasticizer to prepared the starch/lignin composite film and starch/pectin composite film, and a series of characterization and properties were researched. Result show that HAF can be used as the efficient plasticizer of starch/lignin and starch/pectin composite film. Compared with the traditional plasticizer glycerol as a composite film plasticizer, the mechanical properties of membrane material were improved. Under the same conditions, the properties of starch/pectin composite film were superior to starch/lignin composite film. It was because that compared with lignin, pectin structure is more similar to the structure of starch, the compatibility of starch and pectin is superior to the compatibility of starch and lignin.
