This paper regards the Tou Dao Guai section in Inner Mongolia section of Yellow River as the study area, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBS) as the target of pollutants, analyzes and studies pollutant load in water samples and ice body samples and its distribution characteristics within the whole year, and carries out source analysis on polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBS) in water body of Tou Dao Guai section. Conclusions are as follows:(1) The PCBs detection rate of first turn cross section is higher, detection rates of PCB5, PCB29, PCB47 and PCB98 are all 100%; the detection rate of PCB154 is 91.67%; the detection rate of PCB171 is 50.00%; the detection rate of PCB201 is 75.00%. The peak value of PCBs content was 59.78 ng·L-1 which appeared in June 2013, the minimum value was 10.19 ng·L-1 which appeared in February 2013, the difference between maximum and minimum is 49.59 ng·L-1, average value is 33.08 ng·L-1 which is in moderate pollution level.(2) Combine PCBs content and its distribution features with Hydrological conditions of the same time, compare their respective correlations:two factors which have greatest impact on PCBs content of Tou Dao Guai section are flow and sediment concentration; because the first turn is in a larger curve of Yellow River, mean velocity of cross section is difficult to be determined and has larger changes, it is relatively poor with contiguous items of PCBs content; in recent years, because of the construction of governance and control guide projects on the Yellow River, river width of cross section has also been effectively controlled within the scope of less damage, so it doesn’t show significant correlation with PCBs content.(3) Carry on source analysis on PCBs in Tou Dao Guai water through principal component analysis, PCB47 has very good correlation with PCB98 and PCB154 in 7 kinds of PCBs which have been included in research objects and has poorer correlation with PCB5 and PCB29, PCB98 has good correlation with other PCBs in addition to PCB171. The sources of PCBs in first turn water mainly have three aspects:1. Transformer oil and paint additives etc. containing PCBs; 2. Incinerator, bleaching paper industries and domestic transformer oil, etc.; 3. Products imported by our country from abroad in the last century containing PCBs.
