In petrochemical process, the equipment is the guarantee of the efficiency and safety production. So, effectively methodology should be used to manage the maintenance of the equipment. Reliability centered maintenance(RCM) is an advanced management techniques, its goal is to ensure the reliability and safety based on the principle of economic optimization.At present, RCM has been used in a handful of domestic refining enterprises, but the reliability data they used is abroad instead of their own companies’, and it will lead to the inaccurately of the result. Therefore, this paper do the research in the following aspects:(1) The concepts and principle of RCM were elaborated, the necessity of the implementation of RCM in petrochemical enterprises was analyzed, the method and process of the implementation of RCM in petrochemical equipment were analyzed in detail, including the determination of the important functions of products, the FMEA analysis and the application of logical decisions.(2) Based on the history running and maintenance data collected from Zhenhai refining, the failure database for the domestic petrochemical equipment was established by the application of mathematical statistics, and the database is the guarantee of the accuracy of RCM results.(3) A study of the life distribution type and reliability rule of petrochemical rotating equipment was carried out. According to the analysis of the operation data collected in the centrifugal compressor over the years, we identify its distribution type was weibull distribution. With the guarantee of the data’s accuracy, weibull distribution of two parameters and three parameters were discussed respectively. The weibull distribution model was used to get the using reliability rule and the regular maintenance cycle of the centrifugal compressors under the reliability at 0.95. At last, the failure unit of centrifugal compressor were analysed and the high failure rate of the units in the equipment were found out.(4) Reciprocating compressor was used as an example for our deeply understanding of the RCM process. The system was divided, and the FMECA analysis was implemented on the subsystems and key components of reciprocating compressor. The whole process of RCM analysis was completed. Finally, with the FMECA analyzing result, the reliability centered maintenance tasks was working out.
