The volatile organic compounds (VOC) is becoming one of the most important sources of air pollution. Reducing VOC in daily life and industry will make great contribution for improvement of our environment.The purpose of this thesis is to search solvents of low toxicity for cleaning adhesives in application. We use dipentene, an organic solvent which is widely used in fragrance,to replace benzene, toluene, acetone or alcohol due to its low price and low toxicity. Dipentene was distilled and collected into fourteen fractions. On the basis of analyzing the physic-chemical property, the first fraction with high a-pinene content, the tenth fraction with high dipentene content and the fourteenth fraction with high terpinolene content were chosen for the solubility test for a number of acrylic pressure-sensitiveadhesives, such as BOPP transparent adhesive tape, masking tape, PE foam rubber tape insulation tape and brown paper tape. Cleaning experiments were conducted to prove that dipentene had good cleaning effect including initial tackstrength, holding power and peeling strength. Second, the first, the tenth and the fourteenth fractionswerecombined with surfactant, water and dipropylene glycol to prepare a cleaning formula with dispersion stability. On this basis increase the dosage of high flash point component to make the final flash higher than 60℃, which agrees with the national regulation. Finally, to prove the feasibility of the cleaning effect to the acrylic sensitive pressure adhesive by the formula, various cleaning experiments were performed, and the results indicated that the cleaning effect of the formula was slightly lower than that of pure organic solvent. Therefore, the fractions of crude dipentene are promising low-cost, low-toxicity solvents to replace the traditional high VOC solution or high cost dextro-limonene.
