Ionic liquid can be used as a green solvent in many chemistry reactions. But there are various kinds of ionic liquids which are lack of physical chemistry properties. Consequently, this makes ionic liquids quite difficult for practical application. Therefore, it is very essential to measure the physical chemistry properties of ionic liquids. We synthesized five kinds of ionic liquids which are based on 3-alkyl-1-methylimidazolium alanine. After that, we got these ionic liquids characterized by 1H NMR and analyzed about purity by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) respectively. Then we measured the viscosity and density of these five kinds of ionic liquids in different concentrations with a temperature range from 288.15 to 328.15 K and calculated the molar volume and thermal expansion coefficient of solutions. By fitting the experimental data with Jones-Dole equation, we obtained the different B coefficients at different temperatures which meant that the ionic liquids based on 3-alkyl-1-methylimidazolium alanine could promote the network structure of water molecules. On the basis of Eyring’s transition state theory on liquid viscosity, I calculated the sticky flow activated Gibbs free enthalpy and the contribution of each ion to the activated Gibbs free enthalpy. As a result, we develop an experimental method which is useful to predict the viscosity of solution at different concentrations.
