Compared with DC drive system, AC drive has following advantages:large capacity of motor, small GD2, good dynamic response, simple maintenance, high efficiency and energy saving. Since 1990, varying-frequency control of AC motor speed technology has been developed rapidly with the promotion of power electronic technology, control theory and microelectronics, hence, on the application of high speed control performance,AC drive completely replaces DC drive become a inevitable trend, but there still is a big gap between china and developed countries in the AC drive, especially vector inverter field, because of the late beginning of the manufacturing of power electronic and research of control technology, in this paper, the AC vector control drive system in the aluminum foil mill,which was introduced from the Japan to ALNAN Aluminum, was deeply analyzed, including variable frequency drive system, and a preliminary foundation for the popularization and application of high power AC drive system.The background of this essay is analyzed firstly, including domestic and foreign development of aluminum fabrication, a profile of ALNAN Aluminum Foil project and socioeconomic benefits. The significance of the introduction of aluminum foil mill using AC drive to improve level of domestic equipment manufacturing is pointed out specially. Secondly Mitsubishi MELVEC-1200N series inverter are analyzed as the kernel of this paper, including its configuration, PWM control, vector control, reactor multiplexing, speed and torque current control system etc.. Then provides a theoretical basis for technical performance, equipment specification, the selection of inverters used for main drive of ALNAN foil mill and control mode of each motor.Finally this paper presents commissioning method, debugs the main drive of foil mill, record and analyzes the corresponding experimental waveform. Experimental results are obtained:quick speed response and current response, good acceleration and deceleration characteristics, optimization of test speed and tension on the occasion of actual rolling, high quality products on assembly lines. The research suggests that AC variable frequency drive has good control properties, generates good economic and social benefits and provides a successful example for the application of AC drive in domestic aluminum manufacturing.
