Our lives are affected by aesthetic level and images pressrun of fabrics. Fabrics weredecorated for traditional dyeing and screen printing, they can not meet the required quality.Thermal transfer printing technology can adapt to high-quality, diversification and personalizedneeds. This technology which has a huge advantage in controlling costs and improving thequality of the printed product is introduced into the textile industry. The products having a colorfastness, rich colors can withstand light and reduce pollution, etc.The heat transfer printing paper is investigated in this paper. Firstly, the parameters of thepaper printability including grammage, smoothness, air permeance, tensile strength, inkabsorption, bursting strength, opacity, sizing degree, surface strength are selected. The paperperformances are analyzed using principal component analysis. two comprehensive performanceindicators are obtained, smoothness, air permeance, tensile strength, ink absorption, burstingstrength, opacity occupies a higher load in the first principal component, grammage, sizingdegree, surface strength occupies a higher load in the second principal component. Thecomprehensive equation is obtained.Secondly, the parameters of the paper printability including apparent density, smoothness, air permeance, tensile strength, ink absorption, whiteness, surface strength, tearing strength onthe paper printing effects including the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black solid printing density and50percent dot gain are analyzed and sequenced by grey correlation analysis. The comprehensivesequence is: surface strength> smoothness> air permeance> tearing strength> ink absorption>whiteness> apparent density> tensile strength. Scope of thermal transfer printing paper wascharacterized with the associated data. The model of Yule-Nielsen spectral Neugebauer describes the relationship between thespectral reflectance and print dot area values. We established a spectral reflectance model basedon paper. The spectral Neugebauer equation is revised to Yule-Nielsen spectral Neugebauermodel using the spectral reflectance of paper’s inverse as a modified index. It reduces the impactof optical dot gain. Finally, ink transfer rate of thermal transfer paper and fabric and K/S value of fabric aretested and sequenced to evaluate the differences. Values of L, a, b were measured with X-Rite530Spectrodensitometer on the thermal transfer printing paper and the fabric. Lab color space ofthe quality evaluation models are established, fitting functions of color error are establishedaccording to the difference between human vision and chromatic of the heat transfer printingpaper and textile products. The color model could be evaluated and analyzed with diagrams andformulas.Digitization of the paper printability is a good method to compare the pros and cons ofpaper. It expands the scope of application of thermal transfer printing technology in the textileindustry. It has excellent advising with the color difference of paper and fabric.
