Clothing shape research and computer predicting of clothing style is an active branch in thefield of garment formability in recent years. Shorts has its special structural features, theimportant design parameters crotch quantity and crotch angle have important influence on thedress form. But, after dressed, it is difficult to observe the shorts, especially the shape of crotch.So it’s hard to quantify the relationship between the design parameters and dressed form. Inaddition, fabric properties have close relationship with clothing shape, and fabric has manyphysical and mechanical properties.Therefore, it’s necessary to build model of fabric propertiesand dressing effect, and have further study on the relevant relationship, selecting thecharacteristic parameters to involve in computation. This paper studied the influence ofimportant structure design parameters and fabric properties on shorts’dressed form based ontypical cross section, and made a prediction, provided the reference for the design andmanufacture of shorts.This paper mainly includes the following aspects of content:1.This paper used3D human body measurement instrument to obtain shorts’profile data,extracted the shorts’typical cross section that corresponding with the part of body.2.This paper built RBF neural network model of the shorts’typical cross section,superimposed the typical cross section of clean body and dressed body. Extracted the width andthickness of each typical cross section, as well as the value between body and shorts at every15°as the garment sculpt index.3.This paper got6patterns via the change of shorts’crotch quantity and crotch angle,andmade samples, analyzed the impact of structure design parameters on shorts’shape.4.This paper chose42different fabric as the sample, tested the physical and mechanicalproperties of them.Extracted the characteristic parameters,and used cluster analysis to get5kindsof fabric, selected one piece of each kind that has the smallest distance to the cluster center. Usedthe selected fabric and6patterns designed above to make shorts.Analyzed the change rule ofshape that was caused by physical and mechanical properties of fabric, and the influence factor. 5.This paper made comprehensive analysis on the significance of difference on designparameters and fabric properties to shorts, got the main factors via correlation analysis, usedstepwise regression to obtain the regression model.6.This paper used Matlab2009a to develop3D shorts typical cross section shape predictionsystem V1.0, predicted shorts dressed form according to structure design parameters and fabricproperties that was inputted.
