Arsenic has strong toxicity which is carcinogenic to human body and destructs biological activity. Many countries are affected by the pollution of arsenic. The major source of arsenic pollution is geological processes (earthquake, volcanic eruption, rock weathering and fluvial deposition), due to oxidation reduction/biological reactions which make arsenic fixed in geology activated and get into the water or soil. Moreover, arsenic mineral mining (such as arsenic pyrite, gold mineral), smelting (arsenic forms waste liquid and waste residue discharge into the ecological cycle system) and the use of containing arsenic pesticide will also lead to arsenic pollution.Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are new members of porous nanomaterials. They are much more attractive in adsorption process because of their advantages such as high surface areas, special metal centers and structural diversity.In this paper, we investigated the adsorption properties of different metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and natural SiO2materials, which are used to remove the arsenic (V) in water. Through the modification, the performances of natural SiO2material are further improved for arsenic removal. The Fe-MIL-101, ZIF-8and modified natural SiO2materials are synthesized successfully as adsorbents, and explore the effects of the reaction time, concentration, solution pH on the performance of isothermal adsorption for arsenic (V) removal.The study found that Fe-MIL-101for processing and the initial concentration of arsenic reached6mg/L of water, reaction time was4h, the adsorption capacity of arsenic on up to131.5mg/g. ZIF-8material adsorption capacity can reach59mg/g, natural materials processing0.45mg/L of arsenic water, after4h of arsenic removal rate reach95%, using the modified natural materials to deal with arsenic water effect is better. Arsenic removal effect of the three kinds of materials is obviously better than the commercial zeolite, activated carbon and other conventional adsorption material.
