A new flow-guided hole-trapezoidal valve tray (FG-VT) has been designed and divided into I and II type, according to the type of floating valve.Both types of FG-VT with different aperture ratios have been tested in a Φ500 mm plexiglass column with cold-flow model experiments in an air-water-oxygen system. Hydromechanics and mass transfer performance have been measured in the condition of different gas and liquid loading, including dry plate pressure drop, wet plate pressure drop, entrainment and weeping rate and tray efficiency. The experimental data were maped and analyzed and then compared with F1 valve tray with 16.97% aperture ratio. According to the experimental data, precise regression correlations of the FG-VTs have been derived in terms of the dry pressure drop and wet pressure drop and the relative deviation is within ±5%.Compared with traditional F1 valve tray, FG-VTs have better hydromechanics and mass transfer performance. The dry pressure drop of FG-VT Ⅰ and FG-VTⅡ tray were lower about 100 Pa and 200Pa per plate, and the wet pressere drop were lower 100~200 Pa and 200-450Pa per plate than F1 valve tray respectively. What’s more, the tray efficiency of FG-VT I and FG-VT II were higher about 8% and 12% than F1 valve tray respectively. And the weeping rate of FG-VT I was lower 2%, while FG-VT Ⅱs’was higher under low gas velocity and lower under high gas velocity than F1 valve tray. In a word, FG-VTs have lower pressure drop, higher efficiency, lower weeping rates than F1 valve tray.In addition, the accurate model of FG-VT’s pessure drop has been found out by theoretical inference, and the relative deviation is within± 10%.The results show that these new designed compound trays have a lot of advantages, such as low pressure drop, high efficiency, low weeping rates, simple structure, and they can be uesd for industrial application in stead of F1 valve tray.
