Issue regarding Pathogenic protozoa in drinking water has nowadays become an international concern and arose widespread attention. Cryptosporidium and Giardia(they are referred as two insects) are two common species of pathogenic protozoan, seriously endangering the water quality. They can infect humans and other species of animal, which will cause fever, abdominal pain and other symptoms, and even to cause the death of the patients whose immunity was low or lacked. Two insects can survived in the water as a long time, and they had a strong resistance to environmental factors and chlorine disinfectants, and could not be completely removed by the conventional water treatment process. It is very important to investigate the occurrence of two insects in water and wastewater since they threaten the safety of drinking water and bring healthy and ecological risk to city water system.This study uses EPA1623 method, Concentration and separation, Immunomagnetic separation, immunofluorescence assay, three main steps in method EPA 1623, According to the method of EPA1623, a quality assurance program to the EPA1623 method of initial precision, initial recovery rate, recovery and the recovery of standard addition were studied. The test results show that conforms to the EPA1623 standard.On the basis, we investigated the number of Giardia and Cryptosporidium in raw water, finished water, water through sedimentation, water through filtration, filter backwash water and piping water in a water treatment plant were detected by EPA1623 method. The results showed that in Yinchuan urban water supply in Yinchuan water group under the jurisdiction of the water source of groundwater not detected two insects, water landscape of Helan factory responsible for Western Yinchuan water supply Co., the use of surface water are two worms, but Giardia and Cryptosporidium density were maintained at low levels of 0-4 cysts/10 L and 0-2 cysts /10 L. Helan landscape Water plant finished water, water through sedimentation, water through filtration were not detected two worms, and mud water detection in the filter backwash water and sedimentation tank to two worms, but we found a number of Cryptosporidium and Giardia in the water through sedimentation, filter backwash water, which means that in the water treatment process, coagulation and sedimentation have great effect on the removal of Cryptosporidium and Giardia. There is no two insects in All water plant finished water,piping water. It showed that piping water did not be polluted again in the pipe.
