This paper takes method with the theoretical analysis and finite element simulation, adjusts parameters of the model and studies changes in structure size, stress and strain during the spiral welded pipe forming process.Firstly, according to the assumption of material model and small bending deformation, the theory model of the spiral welded pipe is established and the process and deformation of plate bending is analyzed. The cause and improvement measures of the defect called “ peach shape ” in strip billet is studied. The reason and laws for the residual elastic stress of the spiral welded pipe is analyzed. According to the cutting pipe method and the residual bending spring back of the finite element model, the calculation formula for the pipe residual stress is deduced.Secondly, using the finite element numerical simulation technology, the influence of various process parameters to the welded pipe forming is analyzed. Then the second group of rolls is adjusted to find the best position. The impact of changes by the plate’s width and wall thickness on the tube billet forming size and the influence law of residual stress is studied. The plate edge pre-bending model is added and the continous bending model is established. The impact with pre-bending model on structure size and edge’s residual stress is analyzed too.Finally, sets of finite element simulation models, in which the plate width and wall thickness are adjusted, are set up. Elastic recovery size of these tube billet is measured. Combining with the pipe residual stress calculation formula, the welded pipe stress change rule with various parameters is analyzed.
