The edge milling machine is one of critical equipment with high precision of UOEwelded pipe unit,which is used for milling the raw material on the edge of the plate, inorder to meet the requirements of the subsequent welding process. the height and precisionof groove and blunt edge play an important role to the welding quality,which directlyresult in the quality of welded pipe welds and affects the production efficiency.Since the edge milling machine unit of UOE pipe plant goes into operation in a steelenterprise, the problem of steel blunt edge height out-of-tolerance occurres many times,which cause great economic losses.This paper is to solve the problem of blunt edge out-of-tolerance on the UOE weldedpipe from an iron and steel enterprises, which set out to equipment structure, the finiteelement simulation and milling mechanism; Facing with fragmented, incompleteinformation, a simple geometric method is put forward, which needs to skip a number ofunknown factors, so as to predict the relationship of blunt edges with the relative positionand movement of steel and milling unit (tool) from an inverse way through the end ofplate geometry forming process and result; Then the reasons for the blunt edgeout-of-tolerance are comprehensively analyzed and diagnosed, which provides feasibleproposals for normal production and equipment modification in the future. The mainresearch contents are as follows:The three-simensional model of edge milling machine is established based on theProe software according to the drawings information provided by enterprises, at the sametime, the function of main components is described, which is benefit to have a deepunderstanding of the structure.Combined with actual working condition, the software of Proe,UG, Hypermesh,Abaqus are carried out to analyze structure stress and deformation on the major parts ofthe edge milling machine, which indicates the weak link in this device. Therefore, itprovides theoretical basis for equipment maintenance and diagnosis.Facing with incomplete diagnostic information, the simple geometric method is putforward, which ignores the factors such as effects of exercise, constraints and mechanics, the mathematical model of the blunt edge height is set up; Then the tool positionmovement forms are permutated and combined, assuming that the steel plate is in thecorrect position and endue motion parameters for tool position and draw blunt edge heightcurves, so as to implement numerical simulation. As such, a family of curves aboutchanges of blunt side along the longitudinal direction of the steel plate are obtained. Afterthat,blunt edge height variation characteristics is described, by way of comparing with theactual results of steel plate out-of-tolerance condition, the position and micro-motion oftool is seeked when the ultra-poor sample is forming.Considering the effects of exercise, constraints and mechanical factors, abductivediagnosis is implemented, so as to analyse various reasons behind the formation of sampleand identify the cause of the error and put forward ideas or solutions of eliminate orreduce the blunt edge out-of-tolerance.Finally, the diagnostic conclusions is verified by the instance of adding poles.
