In recent years, it has gradually occup ied the transport type and become an important part that the long- distance pipeline transportatio n of oil. This transport is a specia lized transport from producer to market approach, that is composited the main line of the whole network transport. However, the pipeline leakage has serio usly impacted on the cost of transport consequent ly. Especia lly, longdistance pipe line leak not only pollutes the natura l environment, but also waste the valuable non- renewable resources. In the future, wit h the gradual lac k of resources, it demands immediate attent ion to address this important issue of pipeline leakage. In the long- distance pipeline, when the loss occurs, it needs to know the parameter va lues, such as exact location of leakage and the amount of leakage, that requires to outcrop an accurate way to solve it.Dissertation focuses on analyzing t he leakage detection in long o il pipe line. Taking advantage of the experimenta l device of isotherma l pipeline, this paper operates for the three cases: leakage or no leakage different leakage point, different a mount o f leakage, then deal w it h the obtained data and analyze the phenomenon. This paper carried out the numerica l analys is in connection w it h leakage detection in the long- distance pipeline, based on the water hammer theory of trans ient flow, w ith method of characteristic, programming us ing MATLAB soft ware. The data of pressure was obtained by means of contrast ing experime ntal data and the numerica l results. The results show that the local pressure drops when the le akage occurs. This pressure change spreads throughout the pipeline, that affects the pressure point appeared the response of pressure which is different of status of no leakage.Pressure va lue whe n the leakage occurs is lower than the non- Leakage condit io ns based on the transients, and accompanied by a stronger attenuat ion. The amplit ude of t he pressure will be smaller, and the attenuat ion faster, wit h the leakage posit ion fro m the place where water hammer occurs farther. So when leakage is detected, the p lace of incent ives afforded should been selected that is far from the leakage detection point. Simultaneous ly pressure test- points at different locations also was detected different response.the more closed distance of water hammer is, the more obvious response of pressure is. So pressure of detected points should be selected where these are wit h larger amplitude and slower attenuat ion. In other words, it is more reasonable that pressure of detected points is near the location of water ha mmer. Thes is realized mixed approach wit h experime nts and numer ical simulat ion. This provides a combinat ion of ana lyt ica l methods with main software and hardware supplemented in the actual project. Then thes is conducts optimizatio n calc ulations in the ent ire syste m taking advantage of e xperimenta l data as response, which carry out ident ificat ion in t he entire lo ng- distance pipeline us ing inverse transient ana lysis. Pressure sensit ivit y of the points would be analyzed by programming when the leakage occurs. H igh sens it ivit y means a strong response when leakage occurs, whic h provides an important reference when setting the pressure detect points with leakage.
