Ferrous metals are widely used in aerospace, industrial, medical and other fields for their good comprehensive properties. Traditional ultra-precision turning for ferrous metals is difficult to meet the processing requirements of precision parts for limited tool materials(ceramics, carbide, cubic boron nitride and so on) performance. Single crystal diamond is the ideal tool material in the process of ultra-precision cutting, but the diamond tool is worn so quickly for cutting ferrous metal that it can’t be applied in practical applications. Therefore, it is significant to expand the application area of diamond ultra-precision cutting by studying the effect that cooling and lubricating conditions have(cooling and lubrication methods, coolants) on tool wear.In order to study the influences of five different cooling and lubrication methods like dry cutting, cold air cutting, pouring cutting, MQL, cryogenic MQL on cutting force and cutting temperature this paper used DEFORM to simulate the die steel diamond cutting process. Based on the above research, under the optimal cooling and lubricating method and choosing the different cutting fluid like polyethylene glycol, castor oil, synthetic resin, emulsion, nanofluids to study their influence on cutting temperature and cutting forces. It provides a basis for follow-up tests.Combined with the results of the finite element simulation, this paper conducted the die steel diamond cutting test under different cooling and lubricating methods, then with the evaluation of surface roughness Ra and tool wear VB to get the best cooling and lubrication method. Based on the research above, the different cutting fluids’ effect on the tool wear in diamond cutting of die steel was studied with the best cooling and lubricating method, then based on the results of simulation studies and experimental studies to determine the optimal cooling and lubricating condition in diamond cutting of die steel.Under the optimal cooling and lubricating conditions, this paper conducted simulation research for the influences of different process parameters on cutting temperature and cutting force. According to the die steel diamond orthogonal cutting test the influence of different process parameters on the surface roughness and tool wear was obtained, and the predictable model of surface roughness Ra and tool wear VB was established to provide theoretical foundation for the reduction of the tool wear when ferrous metal cut with diamond tool and the improvement of the workpieces surface quality.
