This research is about a kind of special wheel which cannot be formed adequately using traditional aluminum alloy because of the defects in parts, and these defects may cause a relatively poor mechanical properties. Liquid forging is a kind of advanced forming technology which can save effort and cycle time of production. This research is aimed at combining a new kind of high-toughness alloy with the liquid forging technology, in this way can get full use of the advantage of the liquid forging technology and stimulate the potential of high-toughness alloy. The significance of this issue can be obviously observed and it really has a broad prospect in application.The first step was to test the composition, the microstructures and the mechanical properties of the alloy. Then create the model of the testing physical parameters to simulate the change of temperature using Pro Cast software. The location of the defects can be easily forecasted by referencing on the result of solidification order in parts.Secondly, the microstructures and mechanical properties of different parameters was studied, and the changing parameter mainly include the casting temperature,pressure and time. The result shows that when the temperature of casting is about 725℃in temperature, 20s~30s in time, and 30 MPa in pressure, the microstructures of the wheel was uniform and tight, also, the mechanical properties was improved.A new kind of complex loading mold was designed according to the reason and characteristic of the defects in the corner. The result shows that the microstructures in the wheel was improved in process of the increasing of loading force, when the shrinkage was about 8mm, the microstructures of respective parts in the wheel was more uniform and the mechanical properties was much better.At last, a serious of heat treatment experiments was studied by OM, SEM, XRD,and the hardness test,mechanical properties test was conducted at the same time. The changing parameter is time and temperature of solution treatment, the artificial aging is also different. The result shows that when the solution treatment was at 535℃ for 15 hours, and artificial aging was at175℃ for 12 hours, the mechanical properties of thewheel was perfect and there was no gas porosity on the surface. The best mechanical properties is about 428 MPa in tensile strength and 9% in elongation.The forming wheel can excellently meet the requirement and achieve the expected properties by use of the given forming process and heat treatment parameters, so that it will have a wider promotional value for this part in the future.
