Nowadays, public concerns of environmental pollution and ecological destruction were mainly focused on the human habitat, land. While ocean that took up 71% of earth’s surface area earned less attention. With the rapid development of the social economy, the marine ecosystem got deteriorating. Cargo solid waste(CSW) produced from general maritime operations have a profound and lasting effect on the marine ecosystem.Firstly, the combustion behavior of CSW was studied by means of thermogravimetric. Secondly, the influence of the interaction on NOx Emission during co-combustion of Combustible Solid Waste Components(wood, paper, textile, rubber, PE, PVC, PP, and PS) was studied using pipe-stove and flue gas analyzer. Lastly, based on the theory of life cycle assessment(LCA), the impact of three optional treatments for the marine solid waste(the combustion on board, the disposal ashore, and comprehensive treatment) on environment was studied. The combustion behavior of cargo solid waste was studied by means of thermogravimetric analysis under different heating rates and atmospheres. And the kinetic parameters were calculated by different methods. The range of temperature for CSW combusting was chosen from 100℃ to 1100℃, according to the characteristics of typical ship incinerator. The results showed that the whole process of CSW combustion was consisted of three stages. The weight loss of CSW mainly took place during the range of 250~490℃. And the combustion was almost completed before 650℃, with little material reacting at high temperature. Heating rate didn‘t influenced CSW combustion process significantly and the variation of therrmal chemical reaction was not significant at different heating rates. However it mainly affected CSW combustion rate. The average activation energy of CSW combustion was 162.588 k J/mol calculated by FWO and 160.677 k J/mol calculated by KAS under O2/N2=30:70.The components of combustible solid waste did not act independently during co-combustion. The characteristics of NOx emission during the combustion of individual and dual components at different temperatures were studied by using the pipe furnace and flue gas analyzer. The results showed that the influence of dual component‘s interaction on NOx emission was primarily due to the interaction of intermediate products from different components. Temperature affected the interaction of different components mainly by the influence on the variety of gas-phase products and the time of their forming and staying in the furnace. Once the deviation of combustion characteristics between two components was large enough, the NOx emission from the co-combustion of them might increase. In most cases, the NOx emission from dual components increased because of interaction of two components during the co-combustion process.Based on the theory of LCA, the work lists three optional treatments for the CSW delivered to Guangzhou port, the combustion on board, the disposal ashore and comprehensive treatment, according with International Maritime Organization instruction. According to the system boundary frame, the input and output of all the step of the three treatments are confirmed. As far as the four types of environmental impact are concerned, as global warming, acidification, nutrition eutrophication and photochemical ozone synthesis, the combustion on board has the maximum environmental impact potential. The environmental impact potential of it is 0.129 PET2000 according to the theory of Life Cycle Impact Assessment. The minimum one of the disposal ashore is 0.094 PET2000.
