NanoaH and the commercial NaH are compared with their particles sizes, specific surface areas and chemical reactivities. The effect of heat treatment at different temperatures under Ar atmosphere on the specific surface areas and particle sizes of nanoiH and nano?KH as well as their chemical reactivities have been studied.l.NanoaH possesses a much larger surface area (90m2!g) than the commercial product (1 .4m2/g) does, as calculated from BET measurements. Its chemical reactivity is orders of magnitude than that of the commercial one. Two kinds of test reactions were employed to elucidate the differences between nanoaH and the commercial one. Nanoal-1 exhibited very high reactivity for the hydrogenation of 1?octene with TOFinitiai of 113 and TO of 15000, while the commercial NaH showed no activity. As a hydrodechlorinating agent , nano桸aH is more active than the commercial one. With nanoaH , many reactions can be carried out efficiently.2. Nanomaterials exist in a rnetastable state. They are stable at room temperature under inert atmosphere on standing. The resulted LiH and KIT were subjected to heat treatment at different temperatures for 6W The particles of LiH and KH grow at elevated temperatures with a decrease of their specific surface areas. The specific surface area of LiH treated at 300~C decreases significantly, whereas a much higher catalytic activity is achieved with the catalyst composed of nano ?LiH and Cp2TiCl2. A maximum of TO per unit LiH and KJ-1 for the catalytic hydrogenation of I ?octene appears at a pretreated temperature around 300 ~C. This fact indicates that the specific surface areas of nano ?LiH and KH are an important but not the only factor for their reactivities. Nano ?KH can polymerize styrene rapidly...
