This paper studies the principle of the featUres technology, which has exertedgreat infiuence on the descriPtion of integrated produCt information model and otherengineering occasions. It also does deep research in the definition, cIassficaion,operation of the feature and the relationship among featUres. It compares theapproach of design by feature with feature recognition. In the light of advantagesand disadvantages of them, this paper proposes the tWo approaches be combined toyield a system that is more poweffol than any one of them-used alone in the featUremodeling of produCts. Then it studies the principle and concept of object-orientedprogramming method, brings fOrward that this method should be used together withfeat'Ures technology in the featUre modeling of products.It also discusses and generalizes the featUre modeling method of complicatedplastic products such as automobile instrument panel of LIEBAO. A detailed featureclassfication of plastic products is presented after giving further study of thecharacter and design requirement of them. Then it applies the method of featureabstraCt-based dynamic definition to establish feature library which will be used inthe plastic products design. This paper shows great emphasis on the research ofplastic injection mold design. puts fOnvard that features technology should becombined with relation-constrained technology and assemble model during thedesign procedure. A feature-based and relation-constrained assemble model whichdescribes the data struCture of injection mold is construCted. The assemble modelhas been used in detail design of injection mold of the automobile instrument paneland is quite useful fOr the realization of automatic and related modification of designaccording to the relationship and constraints among all of the parts of the produCt. Ithas been proved of high efficiency fOr CAD system and has brought about morereasonable design results. In this papef, it also introduces the concept of referencemodel and expounds the realization method of TOp-Down CAD. Usingobject-oriented programming method, based on Proffingineer software, thedevelopment of a special CAD system FB-PanS (Feature-Based Plastic part andInjection Mold Design System) is detailedly stated in the end of this paper.
