This paper introduces the characters of aluminum titanate ceramic and makes a overview of the present researches of aluminum titanate. Aluminum titanate梞ullite ceramics (MAT) were prepared from cheap raw materials by single sintering process. The best process condition of preparing MAT by single sintering process, according to the results of bend strength and water sorption of samples, is that compact pressure is 25Mpa,water content is 8%. The mechanical strength is improved by introducing mullite Samples with 30% mullite are of high strength (86MPa) and moderate thermal expansion coefficient (3.51 X I 06/ 0C). Introducing additives could inhibit the decomposition of MAT. According to the XRD patterns, samples do not decompose annealing at 11 000C for 10 hours. Compound additives are more efficient than single additives. MAT ceramics are of high thermal shocking resistance, which still maintain high strength after thermal shocking tests. Sintering temperature is important to the final properties of MAT ceramics. Samples sintered at 14500C for 2 hours are of high bend strength and low thermal expansion coefficient.
