This paper uses basic theory of the environmental geochemistry, environmental chemistry and edaphic geochemistry to research the polluting characteristics of heavy metals and element thallium's existing speciation in soils of polluted area Lanmuchang thallium deposit in Xingren county of Guizhou province.The major contents is described as follows:1. Chemical analytical principle has been used to research the polluting situation of heavy metals' distribution on the whole in the region .The three poisonous heavy metals,mercury,thallium and arsenic were mainly analyzed and investigated and their distributing law in each factors of environment in the region were found out,the three metals' content features in soil,water and plants were separately studied,the metals' polluting and moving pathway in environment were further concluded.The three heavy metals' distribution features on the whole in the factors of circumstances in the region are:the content in soils >in plants>in waters ,no matter which metal it is.And the soil behaves himself with strongly enriching the three heavy metals.The three heavy metals' content in every water body in the contaminated area are lower than in soils.This maybe associated with the environment itself cleanup,sediment's adsorbing metals and the metals existing speciation.Mercury,arsenic and thallium's quantity in plants in the polluted area are high too,and they exhibit features as:the content in roots >the content in stems or leaves. The distribution features of the three metals amounts in the polluted region as follows:1.1 The amount of mercury,thallium and arsenic are all higher than the normal value in soils at different sampling locations.This indicates that the soil of the area strongly enrich this three heavy metals,and reflects on the soils badly polluted characteristics in the region.1.2 The three heavy metals distribution features as follows:Each of the metals' content in soil where is near from the mining place is higher than far from the place.1.3 The samples from different sample locations of various water body in the area were analyzed.The results show that the content of mercury ,thallium and arsenic in water are low ,and they didn't abate obviously over time.1.4 In the plants,the contents of three metals in roots are higher than in stems or leaves.1.5 Between thallium and soil's chemical compositions,there is an appparent relevant relation.Then,thallium and potassium and natrium in soil are in directproportion.But,silicon,aluminium,ferrous,titanium, manganese are not. 2. The research into thallium's geochemical phase as follows:2.1 A phase analytical method of thallium involving sequential chemical extractions has been developed for the determination of thallium in seven phases of soils.The procedure of sequential extraction has been satisfactorily studied,and the sulfide phase been single extracted successfully.2.2 Using the results of the phase analysis,the situation and the polluting source of the contaminated region has been analyzed.
