Air conditioner market and aluminum foil industry in China was analyzed in this article. Function and principle of hydrophilic foil used in air conditioner heat-exchanger fin was described in detail. Study and development of hydrophilic coating was also summarized.From emulsion polymerization, resin selecting, recipe formulating, coating condition and other aspects, the study of base coating for hydrophilic coating was described in detail. Emulsion resin was obtained through core-shell emulsion polymerization method. When styrene (St), methyl methacrylate (MMA) were used as main core monomer and acrylic acid (acrylate) as crust monomer, good filming and adhesion of the emulsion was reached. The emulsion was compared with similar products by infrared spectrum and alternative product was found. A compound crosslinking agent and its usage was set for the coating. The coating condition was optimized as: curing temperature for base coating was 250?70"C and curing time 20s, while 230 - 250"C and 20s respectively for the cover. Properties of the coating equaled its foreign counterparts.By means of differential thermal analysis (DTA), curing mechanism for base coating was discussed. It showed that the curing reaction went through two stages as Wet Condition and Dry Condition. Satisfied crosslinking effect was achieved when compound crosslinking agent was used.Laser particle sizer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were adopted in the study of adhesion between aluminum foil and the coating. It was indicated, both the distribution of emulsion particle size and chemical interactionbetween foil and the coating attributed to the adhesion.X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to measure the crystallinity of hydrophilic coating. It was indicated that film with high crystallinity had high surface energy and hence got good hydrophile.
