Nowadays, crude oil is heavier than before and the increasing content of sulfur, nitrogen and metal is found in crude. To meet more and more strict environment regulations and market demand, the quality and slate of products should be improved. It is an urgent task and great challenge for hydrogen refiner. In order to produce clean fuel friendly to the environment, developing new hydrogenation catalyst with higher activity is of the most importance. Catalyst activity is known to connect with its composition and preparation method. So the preparation method of catalyst will influence the nature, activity, selectivity and stability of catalyst. Therefore, HDS catalyst preparation method has a realistic importance to the deep study on l-IDS catalyst activity. For the large resource of W minelral in China and excellent hydrogenation property of W-containing catalyst, W is applied in N1W/Ab03 system. The influence of preparation methods on the HDS activity is studied. Conventional and ultrasonic methods for catalyst preparation were investigated. The LIDS activity can only be improved slightly by stepwise impregnation and impregnation using organic solvent or chelating agent. But the H7DS activity can be improved significantly by ultrasonic impregnation and microwave dryness. In this paper, the lattermethod is called Wave Processing.XRD, XPS and TEM techniques were employed for the characterization of prepared catalysts. Using the Wave Processing method, new species of Ammonia Aluminum Hydroxide on the surface of catalysts was found; the surface concentration of sulfides of Ni and W species was increased; the dispersion degree of active species on catalyst was improved; and the characteristic active phase with more active sites was enhanced.A deep understanding of the nature of active phase on the catalyst is obtained through the evaluation of catalysts activity and the characterization of catalysts. These studies will be helpful to the development of IHIDS catalysts with high activity.
