The main purpose of this paper is to chose natural macromolecule material carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) and chitosan(CT) as raw material based on the molecular structure design. Five kinds of macromolecule polymer surfactants GTMACMC> GOMACMC, GTCC, GOCC, CAPCTS were synthesized by graftation and modification of carboxymethylcellulose and chitosan. They were used as organic mercury-substituting inhibitors of alkaline manganese batteries. Their inhibiting properties were measured.In the synthesis experiments, the reaction conditions of every inhibitor were studied. We obtained their optimum reaction conditions, and the structures of them were characterized by IR spectroscopy and DTA. In IR spectroscopy of carboxymethylcellulose derivative GTMACMCU GOMACMC, there were absorption peaks of methyl -CHa that there was no in the IR of CMC. It showed that graftation reaction occurred. The IR spectrum of unmodified chitosan showed the appearance of absorption peak at 1600cm-1 that could be attributed to the N-H deformation vibration and disappeared in the spectrum of modified chitosan GTCCx GOCCx CAPCTS. There were other characteristic absorption peaks at corresponding position. It showed that nucleophilic substitution reaction occurred at the amino group of chitosan. DTA analysis showed that their caloric stabilities were improved. They accorded with the requirements of alkaline manganese battery inhibitor.The inhibiting effects of the five kinds of organic inhibitors were investigated by the methods of collecting gas and measuring zinc electrode corrosion Tafel polarization curves. The results of collecting gas experiments showed that all of them had good inhibiting effects and the inhibiting effects were related to the quantity of inhibitors. When the quantity is lwt%, the inhibiting effect of GTMACMC is best. The quantity of GOMACMC is 2wt%o and that of chitosan derivative GTC^ GOCC is 0.4wt%o,that of CAPCTS is 0.5wt%o. Polarization curves measured results showed that GOMACMC was mixed inhibitor and others were cathodic inhibitors. The five kinds of inhibitors inhibited the hydrogen evolution obviously in the course of cathodic reaction. When GOMACMC inhibited the hydrogen evolution, it inhibited the zinc corrosion. So it could prevent zinc corrosion during the batteries stockpile but it bared zinc discharge during anode reaction and inhibited quickly discharge of battery. GTMACMC, GTCC> GOCC> CAPCTS were not long increase the hydrogen overpotention on the surface of zinc but had activation for anode discharge.
