A less-chrome tanning ageflt polyUrethane metal complexes and itsmicroemulsion were prepared. The results of tanning experiments showthat it has the characters of tanning and retanning agent and thedecreased chrome colltent in the waste efflueflt. In summarization we discussed the environmental pol1utions, whichthe leather industry encounters and some works that studiers have beendone on it in recent years. The high absorption chrome tafmage andchrome-free tannage and less-chIome tarmage were allracted by manystUdiers. A1so the developments and some theories of microemulsion andpolymer metal complexes are introduced. In the laSt part of this chaPterour design ideas were pointed out.In the chaPter tWo we discussed the better ways to makepolyUrethane ligand .After TDI and TA were heated for about 60min at60~65 oC, some so1vent DMF was added to the prepolymer andpolyethylene glycol was used subsequently as a chain extender. Thereaction product was neutralized by alkali and a novel aqueouspolyUrethane ligand was obtained. The polyUrethane metal complexes were obtained with thepotwethane ligand we prepared. The stUdies on IR. TGA and NMRshow that the ligand can easily coordinate with metal ion.The microemulsion of polyUrethane metal comPlexes were made inthe fourth chaPter. The ratio of emulsion and some other factors werediscussed. In the last chaPter the microemulsion was applied to tan leather. The results of tan-ning experiments show that the shrinkage temperatureof leathers was imProved about 35"C and the amount of Cr2O3 in thewastewater was reduced great1y Compared with the chrome tanningagent.
