A new process for recombination of Fh-Ch based on the use of hydrophobic catalysts at ambient temperature has been studied. This paper mainly describes preparation of macroparticle hydrophobic catalyst with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as hydrophobic material and binder, the kinetics of the catalytic reaction, the process of recombination of Hj-C^at ambient temperature. The catalyst preparation composes of 4 steps: (1) A proper amount of a partially platinized carbon powder containing 10% platinum by weight was mixed with a small quantity of water in a beaker and some of dispersion PTFE (60% solids) were added to this mixture. (2) The mixture was gently stirred to form a dispersion and the catalyst carriers^bOj) which were pretreated with a dilute dispersion (10 % solids) of PTFE were added. (3) The beaker was slowly rotated to uniformly coat the carriers with partially platinized high surface carbon/PTFE mixture. (4) Then the catalyst was dried and calcined. The kinetics of Hi-Ch reaction on the Pt/SDB was investigated at ambient temperature (20-90 癈) by using water cooling to remove the heat of reaction. In excess oxygen , the reaction was first order in hydrogen and zero order in oxygen. The relation of apparent rate constant with temperature comply with Arrhenius. The apparent activation energy was calculated to be 21.12 k.l/mol.The influence factors, such as cooling ways, non-catalytic packing, temperature, space velocity and catalyst amount were investigated. The results indicate that: the cooling water contacting with catalytic assembly don't poison the catalysts. The addition of non-catalytic hydrophilic packing to bed can improve the performance of the catalyst and heat transfer. Fk conversion increases with temperature rising and decreases with space velocity becoming high. A mass balance model was obtained and agreed well with experimental results.
