Various resins of acrylate-modified polyesters, epoxide acrylate and polyurethane acrylate used for UV curable powder coatings were synthesized. The process and recipe of resin preparation were studied. And UV-curable powder coatings systems were formulated with regard to resin blending. The effects of powder coating formulations on properties of cured film such as adhesive attraction, resistance to impact, resistance to organic solvents, pencil hardness, gloss were further studied. The results indicated that the types and topologies of double bonds on unsaturated polyester chains has great impacts on the properties of powder coatings. The existence of end methacryloyl groups (those with double bonds lies in each end of macromolecule chains) improves collective properties of the powder coatings. It has also been shown that increasing the fraction of epoxide acrylate resin in the formulation benefits pencil hardness and resistance to organic solvents. It was also shown that the introduction of semi-crystalline unsaturated polyester improves the properties such as resistance to direct and reverse impact, adhesive attraction of the cured films.
