In this article, the effects of electrolyte, electrical parameters, PH value of solution and other assistant elements on the thickness, compactness and surface roughness of LY12 aluminum alloy Micro-arc Oxidation ceramic layer are studied. Micro-arc Oxidation ceramic layer is produced by the MAO equipment designed by ourselves. The electrochemical corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance are compared by electrochemical analysis and fretting test. The microcosmic configuration, phase distributions and constituents are investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffractometer. The results show that the ceramic layer with different compactness takes on the difference of electrochemical corrosion resistance. The current consistency is the prominent factor that influences compactness of ceramic layer. The suitable value of current consistency should be decided for solutions. On the condition of roll-glide friction, the surface roughness of ceramic layer is the determinant factor on abrasion resistance and the thickness of ceramic layer confines the abrasion mechanism, which is two-body particles abrasion while the thickness exceeds the critical thickness, otherwise which is fretting fatigue. The ceramic layer is mainly composed of -Al2O3 and -Al2O3 by X-ray diffraction analysis. So we can conclude that the thickness increasing of MAO ceramic layer is caused primarily by means of the combination of aluminum and oxygen, and other elements hardly join in the course.
