High-speed cutting is a new advanced manufacturing technology developed since twenty years ago. Developed countries have done much research work on high speed cutting mechanism and application. However, the domestic research is comparatively dropped behind in this field. So, many research tasks are need developing in high speed cutting mechanism to promote its wide application in industry.A relation model between cutting forces and cutting speed is established for high speed milling condition on the basis of research into the theory of shear distortion and the discrete milling cutter. And the formula for angle of shear plane is modified by chip shortening coefficient.The single-factor experiment for measuring cutting forces and cutting temperature is achieved on HSM-700 high speed milling tool, hi the experiment, the forces in X,Y,Z orientation are measured and the milling temperature as well when three kinds of work-piece are milled with the cutter with corner and the cutter without corner. The result of the experiment is analyzed for the change trend and the experience formula is also given under different condition.Surface roughness of work-piece and chip deformation are studied on the basis of single-factor and multi-factor experiment, which can reflect the changes of milling forces and temperature.
