The hypoglycemic activity and the chemical composition of extra-polysaccharide of the Sorangium cellulosm NUST06 strain are investigated. Vegetative cells are in the shape of short rod, about 5-7 μ m long and 0. 7-1. 2 μ m broad. Myxospores, slightly different with vegetative cells, have round-short-rod shape, about 3-5 μ m long and 0. 9-1. 5 μrn broad. Under the condition of malnutrition, cells will aggregate and grow into fruit bodies. Extra-polysaccharide of NUST06 strain contains glucose, mannose and glucuronate in the proportion of 5:3:1. There is a high peak at 67.3ppm in the (13)C NMR, which indicates the existence of 1 - 6 glucosidic bond. Extra-polysaccharide are administered(ig) at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg for seven days, a reduction in blood sugar can be observed. When doses of extra-polysaccharide amounts to 200 mg -kg-1 -d-1, blood sugar can be reduced by 27.7%. And in the similar experiment to 4-oxy-pyrimidine diabetic model mice, blood sugar can be reduced by 35.9% when the doses of extra-polysaccharide is 200 mg kg-1 ?d-1. |
