The existing chemical synthesis processes of polymeric ferric sulfate (PFS) were summarized and analyzed in this thesis, the results have showed that catalytic oxo-synthesis can still be used as a practicable chemical synthesis of PFS and NaNO2 can be used as a kind of catalyst which has better performance. Furthermore, a new kind of promoter (rare earth) was adopted in this process, which can accelerate the speed of reaction, decrease the dosage of catalyst to half, shorten the reaction time from 8h to about 2h. Through the discussion of the conditions of the process, such as the choice of material, the input ratio, the temperature, pH, basicity, the drugged methods of catalyst and promoter, the optimum parameters of the chemical synthesis process of PFS have been gotten. In addition, the analytical results of the flocculent mechanism and coagulating dynamics of PFS have showed that the distribution conformation and stability of PFS, the mixed intensity and time are the key factors of the coagulating effect. At last, through a serious of simultaneous coagulating tests which are designed to treat dyeing wastewater, self-made dyeing wastewater. papermaking intermediate water, papermaking black liquor. municipal sewage and road surface runoff with PFS synthesized in this research and some other typical coagulants, the tine performance and widely applicability of PFS were verified.
