A series of modified Mg/Al Hydrotalcites were prepared through adding other metal ions, the catalysts were called Metal Complex Oxides after being calcined. The X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and the infrared spectrum were used in investigating the crystal structure of Metal Complex Oxide(MCO) catalysts, the structure of modified Hydrotalcites(MCO) are proved to be similar to the Hydrotalcites before being calcined, and many alkalinous active region occurred on the surface of catalysts after being calcined at high temperature, simultaneously the primary crystal structure of Hydrotalcites changed, a great deal of micro holes came into existence which were analogous to the molecular sieve, and the catalysts were certified to possess the catalytic function of shape-selection.The factors affecting crystal structure and catalytic property on ethoxylation were researched in detail through synthesizing different catalysts by different synthetic method. The results of test showed that the structure of the series of HD catalysts prepared by coprecipitation method was not regular than that of the series of HT prepared by hydrothermal, especially on the surface and in the side of crystal. It also showed series catalysts HD contained transition metal-Co and rare earth metal-Dy were fairly efficient on catalyzing ethoxylation: reaction speed was from 1.4g/5min to 3.2g/5min, reation temperature was under 160℃, narrow molecular distribution index was up to 100%.Applicable range of Metal Complex Oxides and their catalysts modified by fatty acid on surface was investigated, butyrate acid and octanol were selected as starting agent in the experiment, Metal Complex Oxide catalysts had high catalytic activity and narrower molecular distribution than KOH, and it can be widely used in industrial manufacture. When fatty acid (butyric acid) was used as starting agent, the product catalyzed by Metal Complex Oxide was better in a certain degree than KOH. For example, the product is colorless and possesses the fragrance of ester. The distribution of molecular weight was narrower, whereas, catalytic activity of Metal Complex Oxides is not better than that of KOH.A new elementary way with enzyme as catalyst in catalyzing ethoxylation was studied, and a series of qualitative tests were designed to examine the existence of polyether, such as splitting decomposition test by phosphoric-acid, infrared spectrum test and cloud point test, in consequence, there were no evidence to show the presence of polyether, although it establish a foundation for the next research.
