Kaolin is a kind of layer silicate mineral material,Its products have aimed at high grade , special purpose ,fine and function in the world .Its a series of deep process have been used in high grade cars, ships, emulsion, colour, chemical industry ,papermaking , paint and so on ,There are very rich kaolin resources in china .We ought to rely on the dominant position, as soon as possible learn new- high technique and development series product of kaolin, We strive for a good position at competing domestic and foreigh markets.The aim of this paper was to find a good way to prepare exfoliated kaolin and develop the application of surface modified kaolin into PVC cable sheath . A series of application basic researches have been carried out on kaolin . The reasearch contents and results are shown in the following .1.layered kaolin-potassium acetate composite is prepared by the intercalation with potassium acetate . The composite is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction ,and the results show that the expansion of the intercalated kaolin is very obvious . The kaolin is exfoliated while Potassium acetate is moved away from the intercalated kaolin by water washing .The exfoliated kaolin fragments are tiny particles,but still keep the basic layered structure of kaolin.2.Kaolin was surface treated by coupling agent OL-AT1618 ,the effect of organic modification is very excellent. The exfoliated kaolin and calcined exfoliated kaolin were surface treated by OL-AT1618 ,and the value of Effect Activation Index, 88%, illustrate that the effect of organic modification is very excellent, too . The purpose , methods andmechanism about the modified kaolin were studied.3.The modified kaolin DB-1 were added into the PVC cable sheath as insulatinf modifiers. The relation between the content of insulating modifiers with electric properties and dynamics properties were invesitigated . The volume resistivity index is less than pure PVC cable raw.4.The modified calcined peeled kaolin and other kaolins were added into the PVC cable sheath as insulating modifiers . The relation between the content of insulating modifiers with electric properties and dynamics properties were invesitigated . It was found that Surface Modification of Calcined Peeled Kaolin gave the best performance ,and the suitable amount of insulating modifier is 10-20 parts by mass. The synthesis ,properties development trend and applications prospects of PVC composites are reviewed.
