polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS)have recently attracted more and more interest as building blocks for Inorganic/organic hybrid material because of the unique structure of the POSS macromer which is a well defined cluster with an inorganic silica-like core (Si8O12) surrounded by eight organic corner groups. Compared with traditional hybrid materials, molecules type hybrid material is that inorganic molecular are connected to polymers with covalence bond to overcome the traditional hybrid materials' backwards ,which can't be dispersed in molecular lever in materials to result in aggregation. In this dissertation, the kind of novel star type POSS-co-polystyrene and poly(POSS) polymers are synthesized and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR) etc. The main contents of this dissertation consist of the following points:1. The development of silsesquioxanes and polymeric materials containing POSS as well as their synthesis methods were also summarized.2.Two objective POSS monomers were synthesized and characterized with IR, 1H-NMR, 29Si-NMR etc according to the theory of molecular design.3. The monomer A was copolymerized with styrene by free radical polymerization method. Effect of different polymeric conditions to yield such as temperature, solvent, reaction time and catalysts were investigated in detail. The optimize polymeric conditions were obtained. The structures and properties of hybrid polymers were characterized with IR, 1H-NMR, TGA (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis) and DSC (Different Scanning Calorimetry).4. The monomer B was polymerized with different diamine to form novel star type cross -linking network polymers. Their structures were studied with IR 29Si-NMR and GC-MS (Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometry). The relationship between molecular structure and thermal properties was also investigated with TGA method.5. The properties of copolymers solutions were investigated with GPC/RI-DV -RALLS multi-detector GPC technology and the relationship between the structureof the polymers and their properties was also discussed.
